Major drug operation busted

At 2 a.m. on Saturday (May 12), a 30-year-old Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵresident was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Police intercepted a vehicle on Mamquam Road were a substantial drug seizure was made which led to the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Spiral Trailer Court on Government Road.

Marijuana, crack and powder cocaine along with money, weapons, drug paraphernalia and a vehicle were seized. The residence also contained a recently dismantled marijuana grow operation.

The 30-year-old male who was arrested will appear in North Vancouver Provincial Court on May 30.

Climber suffers serious injuryOn Monday (May 14), Search and Rescue (SAR) and Fire Rescue responded to a 911 call for help from the partner of a climber who had taken a lead fall while climbing at the Smoke Bluffs' Octopus's Garden area.

The 34-year-old male from Whistler suffered serious head injuries and was treated by a local paramedic before being long lined from the scene.

He was transferred to a BC Ambulance Service air ambulance and flown directly to Vancouver General Hospital.

Swimmer stranded in strong currentAt 6:06 p.m. on Thursday (May 10), police, Fire Rescue and SAR attended reports of a man stranded on the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵRiver across from the Eagle Viewing area.

A 57-year-old male had started swimming alone across the river well upstream, when he was halfway across he realized the current was stronger than he had anticipated and became trapped in a logjam. SAR Water Rescue responded to the scene.

The uninjured man was recovered and transported to safety by boat.

Drunk driving suspect arrestedAt 3:11 a.m. on Sunday (May 13), a 2006 Kia Rio was observed travelling at high rate of speed on Queensway Avenue.

The operator of the vehicle showed signs of impairment when stopped and was returned to the police office for a breathalyzer test.

A 31-year-old female from Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵwas released to appear in court at a later date.

Police step up traffic measuresThere will be enhanced traffic enforcement on Highway 99 and surrounding communities between May and September. The focus will be on impaired driving and seatbelts. Seatbelts fines have increased to $167 from $138. Members working this past weekend (May 11 to 13) issued 76 tickets and 10 warnings for failure to wear a seatbelt.

The Integrated Road Safety Unit, West Vancouver P.D. and Sea to Sky Traffic Services - eight officers in total - will have increased enforcement over the May long weekend, from May 18 to 21.

The enforcement will be from Horseshoe Bay to Pemberton and target aggressive driving, seatbelts, impaired driving and intersections.

Helicopter enforcement will also be utilized.
