The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵEmergency Program Society (SEPS) needs equipment and they are asking the community to help fundraise for the group that tirelessly volunteers its time to keep Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵsafe.

SEPS owns one rescue vehicle and one command vehicle for its entire operations stretching from Whistler to North Vancouver. The rescue vehicle is used for towing boats and ATVs, as well as transporting stretchers and other equipment, while the command vehicle is used as a portable communications headquarters.

Having just one of each vehicle, is something the SEPS said could result in dangerous situations for people in need. "For example if the rescue vehicle needs to tow a boat to the yacht club for a rescue, but the vehicle is being used elsewhere, that could slow down the water rescue. A quick response time equals success and when a person is in the water, time is the biggest factor," said SEPS president, Dave Loop. "People come to the Outdoor Capital of Canada and rely on us to be their safety net. We need to be able to grow with the increased activity Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵhas seen in the last decade."

The volunteer operation is also raising funds for dry suits, life jackets, ropes, webbing and radios, and Loop said all the equipment needed will be purchased in Squamish. To raise the approximately $100,000 needed for the new supplies the group has organized two fundraisers.

The first, sponsored by the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵCredit Union, is a raffle where local business are being asked to come to the bank and donate items and gift certificates. Raffle tickets are then being sold at the bank for the prize draws.

The second fundraiser is through the sale of advertising space on a SEPS poster, featuring the entire volunteer squad and their equipment.

Those interested in buying space on the poster can contact Dave Loop at 604-898-1077 or Graham Teanby at 604-815-1283. Receipts are also available for donations of more than $50 and can be mailed to: P.O. Box 5677 Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵB.C. V0N 3G0.
