Proof is in the pudding

I have a homemade bear lock on my garbage can ["Homemade bear lock discouraged," The Chief, March 6]. Rather than being certified by council, it has been certified by the actual end user - the bears.

I have a homemade bear lock on my garbage can ["Homemade bear lock discouraged," The Chief, March 6]. Rather than being certified by council, it has been certified by the actual end user - the bears. I have lost track of how many times I have been woken up by bears batting the garbage container around the yard as they test the locking system. It has withstood the bears every effort to open the container. As certification, the container has numerous scratch and teeth marks. As Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵresidents, we are required to secure our garbage cans. The issue should not be how it is secured but rather if it is secured. Can't see any reason to pay $100 for something that does the same job for less than $20. Jim Neudorf
