This letter was sent to West Vancouver-Garibaldi MLA Joan McIntyre and copied to The Chief for publication.

Joan,

You were quoted in the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ (Friday, Jan. 30, A4) saying that most people would say Alexandra Morton represents one end of the spectrum. Let's see, Alexandra Morton, peer reviewed on the ground science in the Broughton Archipelago, Jean Michel Cousteau and the Suzuki Foundation on one end and, on the other end, Liberal political economics and a powerful Norwegian multinational calling itself Marine Harvest (that's "harvest" not "stewardship"). Where do you suppose B.C.'s wild salmon fit in there?

You are also quoted as saying that the seven-member BC Pacific Salmon Forum is preparing a report "that will advance B.C.'s aquaculture plan."

Why bother with the forum when the outcome is already known? And what do we gain if the $400 million fish farming industry, employing 3,000 to 4,000 people, puts the survival of the B.C. wild salmon stocks along with eagles, bears, orcas and entire ecosystems at risk, and with them a fishing and tourism industry worth many times as much? Coincidentally, a quarter page ad for your re-election appeared on the same page as the article. Don't count on that being enough to breach this credibility gap.
