As a senior and tenant of the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵManor, I would just like to say "Bravo, bravo" to our wonderful organization and their people who came to our aid that fateful day that we encountered the fire in our residential building [Fire takes life at seniors home," The Chief, April 17].

The smoke pouring out of the building was reported by a construction worker next door and the race was on.

We have a hero in our midst by the name of Mr. Stan Ward, who is our residential caretaker, who we fondly refer to as Stan-the-Man!

Stan's quick reaction of turning on the newly-installed sprinkler system saved the rest of the building. I dread to think what could have happened if it had been during the night and people would have been in bed sleeping.

The fire department, police and ambulance attendances all did a superb job. Public and Mental Health and many care workers came to look after us. The Emergency Response Team came to our aid, providing food and warm clothing.

Our board of directors and office staff Laura Modray, and JoAnn Daffern did an excellent job of setting up accommodations for those who could not return to their suites due to water damage. Thank you to Sue Craigie our co-ordinator who kept us in good spirits. To those in the Cedars' who took some of us in for comfort and solace, thanks. Our mayor, Mr. Greg Gardner and his associates came to see if they could help in any way.

When we were able to return to our lounge in the building, our special gal Julie kept the coffee pot brewing and also had goodies. Julie is a tireless worker and has made our lounge a place like home. She is a real gem. Thanks Julie.

I feel much safer now knowing the new sprinkler system is installed and has proven itself. To the Viking Fire Protection Inc. and its workers, Big George and Todd, bravo, a job well done.

Unfortunately we did lose a friend and tenant, Mr. Bruce Quigley. Our condolences to his family and friends.
