WINNIPEG 鈥� School divisions across Manitoba will see an increase in provincial funding for operating costs to the tune of $100 million for the next school year.聽
The Manitoba government says this amounts to about a six per cent increase compared to the previous school year, the highest in recent years.
Part of the money will go toward operating costs, special needs programming and costs for independent schools.聽
Education Minister Wayne Ewasko says the new money will help school divisions engage students and invest in programs and services that will best meet the needs of local communities.聽
Every school division is expected to receive an increase in operating dollars of at least 2.5 per cent.
Ewasko says work continues on the development of a new education funding model after school officials and families criticized the Progressive Conservatives for chronic underfunding for kindergarten to Grade 12 schools.聽
