Add sunshine to 70 teams playing soccer at Brennan Park and the result was another successful Soccerfest for the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵSoccer Association organizers.

"The weekend was a big success," said organizer Dave Harrison. "Just about everyone we talked to had a great time and will be back next year."

Sikh Temple won the men's side of the tournament for the second year in a row, and although based in Vancouver, the team had local support because of four players on the team raised and trained in Squamish. Karm Takhar, Kabir Takhar, Rory Fogerty and Danny Muir, coached by former local Pepsi Takhar, were a part of team's path to victory.

On the women's side the West Side Shooters took the top spot, however Harrison points out the success of the young Howe Sound Secondary girls who nearly missed the finals.

Led by Ron Rosser, the girls were the youngest in the tournament, making it to the semi-finals and loosing in overtime and then losing in penalty shots in the Bronze medal game.

"It was a highlight to see the young boys and girls do so well in the tournament," said Harrison. "They all gained a wealth of experience."

The Mark Burritt memorial was awarded to the local women's over 30-rec team, the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵBreakers.
