SORCA named Cycling BC's top club

The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵOff-Road Cycling Association has been named Cycling BC biking club of the year.

The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵOff-Road Cycling Association has been named Cycling BC biking club of the year.

"SORCA was chosen based on a number of different criteria, and SORCA definitely stood out," said Cycling BC's Communication Coordinator and executive assistant Kelly Houston.

SORCA's club participation caught Cycling BC's attention for several reasons. Their toonie races, weekly or by weekly make it affordable to all members. With grassroots' races as well as high-end competition, they are one of the few clubs to host weekly rides.

Cycling BC also praised SORCA's excellent organization, its youth development and volunteer maintenance programs.

"It's an honour to be recognised by Cycling BC to be the best mountain club in the province," said Cliff Miller, President of SORCA. "Without the hard work of the executive and the members, we would not have been as successful as we have been in the last 15 years."

Cycling BC said SORCA, with more than 250 members, the second biggest mountain bike club in BC after Whistler's WORCA.

"I think with Whistler, the difference is that SORCA involves all members whereas Whistler may have lots of members that might not be actively participating in the club. Although SORCA is a bit smaller, everyone is connected to it," added Houston.

The award will be presented at Cycling BC's Annual Gala at the UBC Boat House on November 23, 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $25. Call 604-737-3034 or email .
