World was touched by Pope's passing

Community

Pope John Paul II touched the hearts of people throughout the world during his papal reign and since his passing on April 2, people of all religions or no religion have expressed their admiration and love for him. To all our Catholic friends in this community who are grieving the loss of their Pope, please know we care.



Members of he Women's Auxiliary to Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵGeneral Hospital will be at Save-On-Foods this weekend selling tickets for their Spring Raffle and garage sale on April 30. The prizes are gift certificates worth $200, $125 and $75 and the tickets are $2 each or three for $5. Tickets are also available at the newly renovated gift shop at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵGeneral Hospital.



The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵEstuary monthly bird count will be held this Sunday (April 10). With the beginning of Daylight Saving Time, the summer starting time is now 7 a.m. and the meeting place is the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Company. All levels of birders are invited to attend this fun and educational outing. For more information, please call Judith at 604-892-3340.



Between Shifts Theatre's offering of an Evening with Monty Python has two more performances at the Eagle Eye Theatre. Plan on attending tonight (April 8) or Saturday (April 9) at 8 p.m. Tickets at $12 each are available at Eagle Run Coffee Company, Billie's Bouquet or at the door.



The distribution day for the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵFood Bank is Wednesday (April 13) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Trinity Hall at Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵUnited Church on Fourth Avenue.



There is still lots of time to take the family to the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵElks Spring Fair 2005. The location is the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵOceanfront Development lands (formerly Nexen lands and chemical plant). The fair is open today (April 8) from 3 to 11 p.m., Saturday (April 9) from 12 noon to 11 p.m. and Sunday (April 10) from 12 noon to 6 p.m. There will be lots of signs downtown to lead you to the fair!



All Four One will be an evening of one-act plays at the Brackendale Art Gallery in May. Between Shifts Theatre is holding auditions at the BAG on Tuesday (April 12) and Wednesday (April 13) between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Actors, both men and women from teens, to middle age to seniors are needed for these plays. Also, dancers, a master of ceremonies and backstage crew will make the plays most successful. Directing the plays will be Stephen Clarke, Kathy Daniels, Dan Jarvis and Paul Fletcher. Rehearsals will be held on Sundays between 12 noon and 6 p.m. and many weekday evenings in May. If you are not able to attend the auditions but wish more information, please call Stephen at 694-892-7478. The performance dates are May 12, 20, 21 and 26, 27 and 28.



WOW (Women on Wheels) is a senior ladies' bicycle club and the group is ready to start another season. The group meets each Monday and for the exact time and location of the ride, please check Kay Wirachowsky's Over the Hill column each week. Dry Grad 2005 for Howe Sound Secondary students will be held on May 27 and 28. Donations for the casino night and prom would be much appreciated and anyone with items to donate is asked to call Janice Hall at 604-898-4505.



A fundraiser for the Grad 2005 class and sponsored by the parent dry grad committee is a beer and burger night from 6 to 9 p.m. on April 16 at the Grizzly Bar and Grill. Tickets are $10 each. There will be door prizes and a silent auction.



The next Creative Connections for Seniors meeting will be held on Monday (April 11) from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Tantalus Seniors' Centre.



The Screening Mammography Mobile Unit will be at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵGeneral Hospital from May 9 to 19 and appointments are now being taken at the toll-free number, 1-800-663-9203. This is a free service for women funded by the Ministry of Health Services through the Provincial Health Services Authority.



On Friday, April 15, the Hearts In Motion Walking Club will meet at the Tantalus Seniors' Centre at 9:30 a.m. For more information, please call Elaine at 604-898-9498.



The fifth annual Howe Sound Music Festival is now under way. This Sunday (April 10) at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵBaptist Church vocal classes will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and the Sea to Sky Singers and the Whistler Singers will perform from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
