John Weston has declared his intention to run again for election as the Member of Parliament for West Vancouver - Sunshine Coast - Sea-to-Sky Country.

Weston came second to Liberal candidate Blair Wilson, losing by 1.5 per cent of the total 63,779 votes cast.

Weston said he was buoyed by the strong showing in the January 23rd election, and decided to run thanks to the encouragement of hundreds of supporters' phone calls and emails. Weston said before a crowd of 85 supporters at a recent gathering at the Salmon House in West Vancouver that the election result was not what his campaign team had wanted, but "We have much to celebrate."Weston counts among his successes the fact thattmore than 22,000 people who voted for him - about 1,500 more votes than Reynolds got in 2004 - and the fact that he won the polls in West Vancouver when Reynolds lost there.

Weston also "made up considerable ground on an opponent who had a two-year head start in campaigning," states a news release from Weston. "We contributed in modest degree to the national success of Stephen Harper and the rest of the Party, as our race attracted unprecedented coverage from the French- and Chinese-language media, which carried across Canada."

Weston added: "But, most of all, we conducted ourselves with unwavering commitment to honourable campaigning and principles of good government."

Weston's specific status is "Candidate of Record", which means he carries the Party's banner at least until it decides to hold a nomination contest in the riding.
