Vernon crash claims life of local girl

An accident described by police as the deadliest in the Vernon area in recent memory led to the death of a 20-year-old from Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵSunday (Sept. 4)

Krystal Lynn Meen was traveling with her sister, her brother-in-law and a friend when the Chrysler Neon they were in collided head-on with another Neon. Only one of the four people in the car survived the crash.

Meen was in the backseat of the car with her friend Dallas John Hein, 25, of Sechelt. The pair was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Meen's brother-in-law, Keith Rollinson, was driving the car. He too was killed in the crash while his wife suffered severe, life threatening injuries.

"Police continue to investigate the cause of the horrific accident," Proce reported in a news release.

According to Proce the accident happened at 3 a.m. on Highway 97 just south of Vernon. The Neon Meen was in was going south. The other vehicle was reportedly northbound but suddenly entered the southbound lane.

Proce said the lone person in the other Neon was Scott Jonathan Mann, 25, of Coldstream. Mann was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Funeral services for Meen, a former student at Howe Sound Secondary School, are planned for Saturday (Sept. 10) at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵFuneral Chapel at 1 p.m. following the funeral there will be a celebration of her life at the Britannia Beach Community Hall.
