Unsightly premises bylaw updated

Briefs

The bylaw dealing with untidy properties was rewritten and streamlined by District of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵstaff and presented to Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵCouncil this week.

Cliff Doherty, the director of public safety, told the members of council the new bylaw and revised policies to go with it give the district more options for dealing with untidy premises.

Coun. Corinne Lonsdale expressed concerns over how subjective the bylaw is. She is worried the bylaw could be abused as feuding neighbours file frivolous complaints.

Lonsdale said the way the revised bylaw reads her backyard could be deemed unsightly by some people because she doesn't diligently control weed growth in her back yard.

First three readings of the revised bylaw passed by a vote of six to one with Lonsdale opposed.
