Truckers gone from District land

Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ

An excavator brought down the JR Trucking shop on Loggers Lane Tuesday (April 26).

The District of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ(DOS) ordered the building demolition when the local government demanded the trucking company vacate the DOS-owned land across the street from the new Adventure Centre.

Darren Doak of JR Trucking was on hand to direct the demolition effort.

"I'm doing this reluctantly," Doak said.

Doak made many requests for an extension of his lease. He wanted more time to finalize his plans to move the operation to another location. His requests were denied and his frustration over the lease situation increased when the company leasing the adjacent property was granted an extension earlier this year.

Doak made a final request for an extension when he heard Burritt and Son Trucking was given an extension but Doak's request was rejected because the DOS planned to use the JR Trucking property for the Wild at Art celebrations next month.

When the deadline for JR Trucking to vacate the property came and went the DOS filed a writ in BC Supreme Court requesting an injunction to force the company off the land. The sides were in court earlier this month. From that court hearing an agreement was reached. JR Trucking agreed to vacate by Wednesday (April 27) at noon.

Doak said a deal was negotiated with a company leasing one of North Yards shops formerly used by BC Rail. The sub-lease means JR Trucking has a shop and a place to operate from but Doak said he is still looking for a more permanent home for the company.

The long-term DOS vision for the Rose Park area calls for the JR Trucking and Burritt leased lands to be converted to a parking lot servicing the park and the Adventure Centre.
