It's ladies' night for a great cause again - 11 great causes, actually.

The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵRotary Club's second annual Men of Sea to Sky Ladies' Night is set to run Saturday, May 7 at the Eagle Eye Community Theatre.

The event will see 200 local women, wined, pampered and entertained by the men of the community and choosing which of 11 local charities will earn their support.

The inaugural event last June raised nearly $12,000 for 10 participating community groups - and set some new and interesting standards for entertainment in Squamish, including dozens of pairs of undergarments festooning the stage for some of the acts.

"There were a lot of surprises," admitted Rotarian Judy McQuinn, the event's organizer.

"When the ladies arrived the atmosphere was unbelievable. The noise level was unreal, and the men that were helping serve, they couldn't see the show. All they heard was this enormous roar."It all came together and the ladies just had a terrific time."

This year, 11 charities will be competing for the ladies' affections with their booths and giveaways, as well as through their chosen performers.

Each ticket holder has a number of votes they can give to the charities. Half of the proceeds raised from the evening are distributed to the charities based on the number of votes they receive. The other half are given to the charities of the top three performers as selected by a panel of celebrity judges.

Participating charities include the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵRotary Club, Sea to Sky Community Services, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵBreakfast Program, the West Coast Railway Heritage Park, the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵHealth Care Foundation, Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵDays Loggers Sports, the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵVirtues Committee, Cedar Valley School, Humanity Village and the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵLions Club.

The entertainment ranges from vocalists to instrumental musicians to sketch comedy and standup comedians. McQuinn says that the participating charities are keeping their cards close to their chest when it comes to entertainment this year.

Ladies have a chance to get a little extra pampering if they buy their tickets early. All those who buy tickets by April 22 will be entered in a draw to win a limo ride to and from the show.

Tickets are available from Rotary Club members, participating charities or by calling Judy McQuinn at 604-898-5902.

The Chief will be profiling each of the participating entertainers in the next five issues, and Mountain FM and My Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵMagazine will also be profiling entertainers.
