The ninth annual Lions Journey for Sight fundraiser takes place this Sunday (May 1) and originates at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park with registration beginning at 10:30 a.m. and the 10k run at 11 a.m. Participants are also welcome to walk, cycle, wheelchair and for mums and dads with children in strollers, there will be a special route.

This annual event is sponsored by the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵLions Club and Nelson Winterburn said provincially, this fundraiser for the CNIB started in the early 1960s in Prince George. Pledge sheets are available at the Chief, Mountain FM, Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵCredit Union, Tim Horton's and Marketplace IGA.

Donations can also be mailed to Lions journey for Sight, P.O. Box 296, Squamish, B.C., V0N 3G0. The Lions renowned wraps and other tasty refreshments await participants following the run at the WCRHP.



A variety of music including Celtic, jazz, Spanish folk, classical and some original compositions is promised at the Eagle Eye Theatre tonight (April 29) at 8 p.m.

On stage courtesy of the Howe Sound Performing Arts Association will be pianist/composer Anna Hostman and violinist Rhiannon Schmitt. Opening the concert will be Kenneth Broadway and Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵresident Nicole Everton.

Tickets are available at Billie's Bouquet, Mostly Books and Highland Video at $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students and children.



The annual Spring garage and bake sale and raffle sponsored by the Women's Auxiliary to the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵGeneral Hospital will be held in St. John's Anglican Church (behind the Sea to Sky Hotel) tomorrow (April 30) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The prizes in the raffle this year are cash amounts of $200, $125, and $75 and the draw will be held at 1 p.m. Refreshments will be available.



There is still time to take in the musical comedy Little Shop of Horrors. The final performances at the Eagle Eye Theatre are tomorrow (April 30) at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵCredit Union, Stylezone and Billie's Bouquet have tickets available at $12 for adults and students and $10 for children and seniors.

Want more entertainment? Plan on taking in the Grassroots Jan at the Brackendale Art Gallery this Sunday (May 1) from 7:30 to 10 p.m. It's always a fun and casual evening and everyone is welcome.



A volunteer recruitment night is planned on Thursday (May 5) and hosted by the B.C. Special Olympics.

It will be held in the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵPublic Library from 6 to 8 p.m. and the meeting will also include a video of our local athletes. It would also be appreciated if male volunteers could offer a few hours of their time.

The Spring Fun Fair at Garibaldi Highlands Elementary School and sponsored by the Parent Advisory Council will be held on Saturday, May 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.



Music director Veronica McPhee will direct the Sea to Sky Singers in two exciting concerts featuring madrigals, folksongs and contemporary music depicting the pleasure and pain of love.

The first concert is planned for Saturday (May 7) at 7:30 p.m. in the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵBaptist Church and the following Saturday, May 14 at the same time, the Richmond Singers will join the Sea to Sky Singers.

Tickets at $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors are available at Billie's Bouquet, Mostly Books, Highland Video and at the door.



Women in the community are reminded that the Screening Mammography Mobile Clinic will be at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵGeneral Hospital from May 9 to May 19. To arrange an appointment for a mammogram, please call 1-800-663-9203.



Next weekend (May 6 and 7) will be an exciting time when the Wild at Art Festival takes place. The Adventure Centre is not completed and so it will take place at many venues in the downtown area.

Local potter Kay Austen will set up her pottery wheel on the sidewalk in front of Nothing Finer to demonstrate her skills during Wild at Art on Saturday, May 7 from 11 to 12 noon and from 1 to 2 p.m.



As we know, Thomas the Tank Engine will be in Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵon the weekends of June 10-12 and June 17-19.

The 25-minute train ride with Thomas departs every 45 minutes, rain or shine between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily.

Between Shifts Theatre's next production All 4 1 (four plays for the price of one) will take place at the Brackendale Art Gallery on the weekends of May 19, 20, 21 and May 26, 27 and 28.

The Elks Club of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵand the Royal Purple along with collecting pull tabs from pop and beer cans, also collect tinfoil.

There's pie and tart shells, used and clean tin foil, foil from cigarette and chip bags and more.
