A 44-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested on the weekend and held in what the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵRCMP is calling a child pornography case.

Sgt. Colin Worth of the RCMP said Tuesday (March 29) police arrested a man after an unidentified father of a 10-year-old girl told police his daughter had contact with the man. The father was concerned as he felt his daughter witnessed indecent acts.

The arrest of the suspect was made based on information provided by the father, his daughter and two other young girls.

The father went to the RCMP on Saturday (March 26).

Worth said, after doing some investigating the suspect was located and arrested on Sunday.

"We spent a lot of time on it [the investigation] over the weekend," Worth said.

According to Worth, police took statements from the three 10-year-olds who had contact with the suspect.

Worth wouldn't give any information pertaining to the man's identity. He did say the suspect lived in Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵfor only a month or two.

A justice of the peace ruled on Sunday (March 27) that the suspect be held in custody. The justice of the peace formally swore charges at that time and the suspect was ordered to remain in custody until a court appearance on Tuesday (March 29). North Vancouver Provincial Court documents from the proceedings on Tuesday indicate a man whose identity is protected by court order made an appearance accused of two counts of assault and a count relating to the possession of obscene material for the purpose of publication.

The same court document indicated the suspect was taken back into custody after the hearing. The suspect was scheduled to appear again on Thursday (March 31). The results of the hearing were not available as of The Chief's press deadline.

The RCMP is asking anyone with information or concerns about this matter to call the office in Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵat 604-892-6100.
