The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵNation recently exercised an option to buy a large parcel of land near Porteau Cove and the Nation reportedly plans to put 1,000 homes on the property.
The purchase was part of a land swap negotiated by BC Rail, the provincial government and the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵNation.
The original negotiations took place in the late 1990s.
Published reports indicate that Concord Pacific, the company developing the former Expo '86 lands in Vancouver, will partner with the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵNation to develop the waterfront property.
No formal development applications have been submitted to the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District; however, SLRD staff is aware of the land purchase.
