Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵLiberal campaign manager takes town's pulse

Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ

The B.C. Liberals' point man in Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵhas talked to residents and businesses, and he hears that locals want to "maintain the momentum of the last four years."

Local provincial election campaign manager Jason Koshman says he hasn't felt antipathy toward the Liberals while canvassing the town's residents, but he recognizes that local opinions are very diverse.

"Don't kid yourself; Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵis a very diverse riding and that's why my personal belief is we need a centrist approach that takes into account all those factors, not simply big business with the exclusion of everything else or resources at the exclusion of everything else," he said.

Koshman says he's helping Liberal MLA contender Joan McIntyre because she is working toward "fiscal responsibility with a strong social conscience.

"Joan's approach is with a strong economy we can continue to support the things that are important to people in Squamish."

Koshman has been resident of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵof 16 months and has quickly grown to love the town.

"Moving to Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵis the best decision I ever made," he said. "It's a fabulous community. I love the diversity, I love the outdoor nature of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵand it has, with the right policies, an absolutely bright future."

That's one reason he's taking time off work as a lawyer in the federal sector and volunteering to take up the provincial Liberal cause on a local level. The 36-year-old moved to BC from Alberta in 1989 and earned a law degree at UBC. He's volunteered for BC Liberal campaigns in the past, but this is his first time managing a regional campaign, and he says he's enjoying the process.

"I feel it's a privilege that we live in a country that has a political process like this. There are a lot of countries that don't. And just the involvement in the community, getting to know people in the community."Koshman organizes volunteers who ensure that McIntyre is aware of local issues, place signs and fundraise. He also organizes advance polls to be held May 11 to 14.
