Poll questionable, says Liberal candidate

The results of a poll showing apparent dissatisfaction with the BC Liberals in the Sea to Sky corridor don't worry Liberal candidate Joan McIntyre.

McIntyre, who launched her campaign in the Sea to Sky corridor Saturday (April 9) with a swing through Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton in a specially-decalled hybrid vehicle, questioned the recent polling results from Robbins SCE Research of West Vancouver, which stated that 55 per cent of those polled favoured another party representing their riding, rather than the Liberals.

A professional of more than 30 years in market and opinion research, McIntyre questioned the poll's legitimacy.

The poll was commissioned by two groups in West Vancouver, including the Green-leaning Coalition to Save Eagleridge Bluffs.

"If you look at [their website], there isn't anything about the company, their background [or] methodology," she said. "You can see bias in their questions. It is pretty questionable. [They also have] no membership in the research society."

She drew on the example of one of the questions to illustrate what she claimed was a bias in the wording of the questions: "In order to preserve the environment, I support construction of a four-lane tunnel."

"'In order to preserve the environment,' You don't start a question with this," she said. "It really speaks for itself. The pollster also had conclusions not substantiated by data. It was his personal interpretation of the situation He equates sustainability with exclusive support for the Green Partyit doesn't belong exclusively to Green."
