A situation in the Upper 樱桃视频Valley has prompted the need for a new SLRD bylaw.
Although it is in the preliminary stages of discussion, the board agreed to look into the creation of an unsightly lot and nuisance bylaw.
At Monday's (Feb. 28) SLRD board meeting in Pemberton, board chair John Turner, representative for Area D, which includes the Upper Squamish, pointed to the unsightly character of a lot in the area, which officials say is polluting a nearby fish-bearing pond. He was asked by concerned neighbours to take action through legislation. Turner also suggested the board send a letter to the Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection.
"This particular site is also a wildfire about to happen with the remnants of fuel lying around," Turner said.
The board agreed to prepare a bylaw and a letter to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Nick Davies, Whistler representative, said the letter should fix the problem.
"The Department of Fisheries and Oceans is very aggressive with this kind of thing. I think they will take whatever steps are necessary to remove all of the junk and charge it to the owner."
