North Shore Credit Union arrives

Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ

Perseverance has paid off, and now locals can bank with the North Shore Credit Union (NSCU) in their own town. The banking institution announced that a new branch was on its way last fall, but rezoning and permit issues delayed the opening until Friday, June 17. The doors are now open and NSCU can cater to clients in their hometown.

"We already have a local membership base," said manager Tracy Rakurea. "And they're thrilled to have us have a presence here."

Rakurea - a Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵresident since 1987 - is also thrilled because her commuting time will be substantially reduced. In fact, most of the 10 local NSCU employees will now enjoy much less time on the road.

Rakurea said clients have been impressed by the branch's interior design, which is meant to compliment Squamish's status as the Outdoor Recreational Capital of Canada.

To further align with outdoor recreation, NSCU sponsored the Test of Metal last weekend and gave inaugural memberships to two Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵresidents: Olympian Aleisha Cline and Winter X Games gold medallist Shaums March.

NSCU plans a grand opening celebration at the branch location at the Garibaldi Village in September.
