The third annual Copper and Fire celebration will be held at the B.C. Museum of Mining at Britannia Beach this Sunday (Aug. 14) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will feature blacksmiths, potters, glass blowers, artists, jewelry makers and more and they will interact with guests as they demonstrate their particular talents. It will be a great day for the whole family as it is half price admission for this event and includes underground tours of the mine. There will be many fun activities planned for the youngsters as well as face painting by Jessica Lauder.
The Copper and Fire celebration also includes live and local entertainers. Juan Carreras, a classical Spanish guitarist who will spin his magic as well as singers Carolyn Grass, Paul Borchert, Jeffrey James, Mario and Anne Iacovone and Paul Coulter-Brown. For hungry guests, the concession stand will be open.
The monthly bird count for the 樱桃视频Environmental Conservation Society will be held on Sunday (Aug. 14) and participants are asked to meet at the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Company at 7 a.m. All levels of birders are welcome to join in on this fun and educational event. When you have visitors in town do take them to the West Coast Railway Heritage Park. Along with the very popular mini-train there is now an opportunity to climb on board the newly restored former B.C. Rail "Budd" Car #BC-33. Each Saturday and Sunday, the train departs from the Mac Norris Station at the Park between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The ride is about one and a half miles long and it takes you out to the interchange with CN and back. The cost is a mere $2 per person. The Annual Mini Rail Day takes place on Sunday, Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
We all know that dear Kay Wirachowsky is unable to continue with her Over the Hill column but I am sure she will be pleased with her replacement. Welcome on board Barbara Rudkin and in the coming weeks I'm sure you will have all the contacts in place.

In last weeks column the trip to the Cloverdale Fraser Downs and Casino was planned for September but Elaine Ramsay now has a confirmed date and that is Thursday, Oct. 20. The last day to sign up and pay is Sept. 10. The visit to Storyeum in Gastown has been changed to Sept. 21. On Oct. 13 there is a seniors' trip to the River Rock Casino and Show in Richmond. Bill and Ruth Smith lived in 樱桃视频for several years but in the mid 1990's, they moved to Fort Langley. Bill passed away on July 30 and a memorial service was held on Aug. 8 with a number of friends from 樱桃视频attending. Our sympathy is extended to Ruth, their daughter Marilyn (and Mike) and sons and to the Smith's son David.
