Lt. Governor comes for Day Out with Thomas

Thomas the Tank Engine will be taking thousands of happy children for a ride at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park for the next two weekends.

But his first ride has already taken place with some very special guests.

British Columbia's Lieutenant-Governor, Iona Campagnolo, visited Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵThursday (June 9) as part of a special 'Day Out With Thomas' event for special needs kids who will be brought in from Vancouver, as well as some children from the area.

Day Out With Thomas organizer Craig McDowall said about two busloads of Vancouver children were transported to the Heritage Park, where they will get the chance to meet the government official and, of course, the little tank engine himself. "McDonald's has graciously donated meals for the around 120 children that will be here," McDowall said.

Campagnolo was slated to arrive at 3:30 p.m. after The Chief's press deadline and give a brief, welcome speech, followed by a ride on Thomas the Tank Engine.

"She is a patron of the West Coast Railway Association," said McDowall. "And, she is also someone who loves trains."

He said the Lieutenant-Governor would also read stories to the children.

Thomas the Tank Engine is a little blue engine created in stories by the Rev. W. Awdry, made famous by a children's television show based on those stories, narrated by the likes of George Carlin, Alec Baldwin and Ringo Starr.

The six-day 'Day Out With Thomas' event that will be attended by families from throughout Western Canada. Day Out With Thomas will run June 10, 11, 12 and June 17, 18 and 19 and This is one of only two Canadian stops on the tour.
