School may be out for the next two months, but the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵPublic Library is beckoning youngsters ages six to 12 years to sign up now for the Summer Reading Club and "Hooked on Books" summer programs. The library is pleased to welcome three summer students hired to run the Summer Reading Club and a variety of summer children's programs. Welcomed on staff are Jesse Dosanjh, Ashley Wray and Taylor Guy and they are looking forward to meeting all the young participants.

Teens are invited to check out the first ever province-wide Teen Summer Reading Club at www.teensrc.ca. Join the club for a chance to win great prizes, including an iPod Shuffle! The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵEnvironmental Conservation Society will hold its monthly birdcount on Sunday (July 10). All levels of birders are invited to participate and you are asked to meet at the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Company at 7 a.m. Newcomers are always welcome and following the count at noon the group meets for lunch at the Howe Sound Inn and a discussion on the variety and number of birds counted is shared. The birders are currently keeping their eye on an osprey nest. For those wishing more information, please call Judith at 604-892-3340.

The Women On Wheels will meet at Canadian Tire at 10 a.m. on Monday (July 11) for a local ride. If you wish to join the WOW cyclists or want more information, please contact Shirley at 604-898-5715.

The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵFood Bank will open its doors for grocery distribution on Wednesday (July 13) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Trinity Hall, Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵUnited Church on Fourth Avenue. Cash or cheque donations are always welcome and can be mailed to the SF Bank, PO Box 207, Garibaldi Highlands, B.C., V0N 1T0.

On Friday July 15, the Hears in Motion Walking Club will meet at the Tantalus Seniors' Centre at 9:30 a.m. For those wishing more information, please call Stephanie at 604-898-1268 or myself at 604-815-0152.

Many folks will remember former residents Sandy and Anne McKenzie who moved to Keremeos several years ago. I was just informed that Sandy passed away in the Kelowna Hospital on July 4. Our sympathy is extended to Anne and her children Bill, Stuart, Janice and families.

The Tantalus Walking Club will meet at the end of Brennan Road, Brackendale for a walk north on the dyke on Thursday, July 14 at 10 a.m. For safety reasons, all dogs on walks need to be on a leash. For more information, please call Joyce at 604-898-5594.

Two up and coming young swimmers, 13 year old Claire Ourom and 11 year old Hana Vartanis are participating in the Long Course Provincial Swim Meet in Prince George this week. They will be in individual and relay events. They are members of the Chena Swim Club of North Vancouver.

Stella Harvey, founder of the Vicious Circle, Whistler Writers' Group will speak about the process of forming a writers circle and this event will take place at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵPublic Library tomorrow (July 9) from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Children of all ages are invited to attend a Power Smart Storytime at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵLibrary on Thursday (July 14) at 2 p.m. For more information contact Hilary at the library or phone 604-892-3110.
