Howe Sound Music Festival winners, adjudicators perform at Eagle Eye

The Howe Sound Performing Arts Association's fifth annual Howe Sound Music Festival culminates with the awards gala presentation and repeat performances by all the gold medal students to be held in the Eagle Eye Theatre beginning at 3:30 p.m. this Sunday (April 17). Piano adjudicator Sandra Joy will also give a piano performance during the afternoon. This will be followed by the announcement and presentation of medals, scholarships and provincial nominees. Tickets for this awards gala are $7 each.



School District No. 48 (Howe Sound) is hosting an Employer Information Evening at Howe Sound Secondary School from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday (April 20). Keynote speakers include Ms. Sandy Steward, Director of Client Interests from the Industry Training Authority, and Lindsay Langill, Secondary School Apprenticeship Co-ordinator from the Ministry of Education. The Chairperson of School District No. 48, Doug Hackett, will speak about programs in our district. After the presentation, employers are invited to tour the kitchen and shops at the school.



Hilltop House residents Bert Salmon and Austin Griffiths will be honoured at the birthday celebration on Wednesday (April 20) at 2 p.m. when birthday cake and tea and coffee are enjoyed by residents and visitors.



The Teen Book Club at Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵPublic Library invites all teens ages 13 years and up to take part in the monthly discussion group. On Tuesday (April 19), the teens will share their thoughts on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. Pick up a copy, read the book and be at the library at 6:15 p.m. Pizza is also on the menu that night!



St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 2449 The Boulevard in Garibaldi Highlands is holding a garage sale tomorrow (April 16) from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Hot dogs and refreshments (coffee and pop) will be available.



Friends of the Library will be holding a used book sale at Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵPublic Library on Saturday (April 23) and Sunday (April 24).

The library is now accepting books (in good condition) for the sale, but please, no encyclopedias, textbooks or Reader's Digest.



Sunday (April 17) the West Vancouver-Garibaldi NDP Constituency Association is holding its nomination meeting at 2 p.m. at the Sea to Sky Hotel, Eagle Room. The candidate who will represent the New Democratic Party in the May 17 provincial election will be selected. The guest speaker will be City of North Vancouver councillor and NDP candidate for North Vancouver-Lonsdale, Craig Keating. The meeting is open to the public. The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵPirates Swim Club will be holding registration for the upcoming competitive summer swimming season on April 19, 21, 26 and 28 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the aquatic centre. New swimmers are welcome to try a two-week trial period.



As a fundraiser for the Dry Grad 2005 class, the parent dry grad committee is holding a beer and burger night at the Grizzly Bar and Grill tomorrow night, (April 16) from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and there will be a silent auction and door prizes.



The Western Canadian Gymnastic Championship will be held in Winnipeg next week from April 20 to 24. A member of the B.C. Provincial team is 14-year-old Laura Galloway, a student at Don Ross Secondary School.

The Hearts in Motion Walking Club will meet at Tim Hortons on Friday, April 22 at 9:30 a.m.

The Knack to Knit and Crochet has moved from the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵLibrary to Gelato & Wool Studio Carina on Cleveland Avenue. The next session is Sunday (April 17) from 1 to 4 p.m.

The SMPBC eligibility criteria is for BC resident ages 40 to 79 (outside of this age group women are accepted with a doctor's referral), women who have no breast changes, can provide the name of a doctor to receive the results, have not had a mammogram within 12 months, have not had breast cancer, do not have breast implants and are not pregnant or breast feeding.



Fiona Couchman will be the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵGardeners' guest speaker on Monday (April 18) at 7:30 p.m. at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park.

Fiona, from Garibaldi Nurseries, will share her expertise. A $2 admission for non-members and $1 for members gives you a chance to win a door prize.



Cedar Valley School is holding an open house this Saturday (April 16) at 10 a.m. at 1930 Diamond Rd. For an informative talk on Waldorf education take a tour of the classrooms and talk with teachers at 11 a.m. Cedar Valley School offers Waldorf-inspired education from preschool through Grade 5.
