A local man is hoping the community will give generously to help those victims of a devastating mudslide in the Philippines last week.

Juan Robes, a Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵresident of 10 years who hails originally from the Philippines, said he was in the beginning stages of a fundraising drive to help those affected by the slides.

"I want to get started as soon as possible," he said. "I know these people are in dire need."

Although admittedly only in the planning stages, Robes said he was anxious to begin as soon as possible.

"It is our culture and tradition to help people," he said. "Especially those in dire need."

Robes said he would begin his fundraising drive by soliciting donations outside local grocery stores. He said any help would be appreciated.

"Pennies are good too," he said. "Pennies can add up and help."

Robes said he was in the process of contacting Philippine Immigration services to see if they can help him get the money to affected areas.

"Right now, those families that have been affected in the Philippines would be happy with any help," he said.
