A neighbour tried, RCMP attended and Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵFire Rescue responded but there was no way to save a mobile home in the Upper Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵValley from burning to the ground.

The trailer at Mile 10.5 of the Upper Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵValley Road at Tantalus Way was completely destroyed. on Tuesday, Jan. 11.

Tony Worth of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵFire Rescue (SFR) reported that the fire call came in at 12:54 p.m.

The homes at Tantalus Way are outside the District of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ(DOS) boundaries.

"This is out of our area," Worth said. "We have no authority to investigate. In fact, when we go up to a call to this area we have to get permission from the administrator."

Cpl. Dave Ritchie of the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵRCMP said that the police went to the fire immediately.

"Our concern is the safety of the residents," Ritchie said.

SFR was given permission to respond and Worth said the first firefighting vehicle was at the scene at 1:04 p.m. According to Worth, firefighters were at the scene until 2:42 p.m.

The mobile home was fully involved when SFR arrived.

"They [area residents] had strung a hose across the street from a neighbour's well," said Worth.

Ritchie said that the owner of the home was not around and Worth confirmed that nobody was hurt in the devastating fire. The owner was reportedly with a neighbour doing some grocery shopping.

Ritchie said a jet boat on the property was destroyed and two or three vehicles were badly damaged as well.

Worth said there were many propane tanks on the property. Propane tanks are always a concern for firefighters because they can be dangerous when they become hot.

There was nothing left of the trailer, Worth said. The frame and parts of roof from sheds around the structure were all that remained once the fire burned itself out.

Ritchie said the property was surrounded by a large fence that helped to keep the flames from spreading to other properties. The fence burned on the inside but once the flames were doused the fence was still intact, Ritchie said.

Based on the observations made by the RCMP members on the scene, Ritchie said it looked like the fire started in the garage at the south end of the trailer.

Buses crash into each other at Culliton Creek

Two northbound Perimeter Transportation buses hit a slippery section of Hwy. 99 at the same time near Culliton Creek during late night runs to Whistler.

Cpl. Dave Ritchie of the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵRCMP reported that the incident took place at 2:03 a.m. on Monday (Jan. 17). One of the buses was in the process of overtaking the other when they both lost control going down the hill toward the Culliton Creek Bridge. The two buses went into the opposing lane and stopped facing south.

Nobody was hurt. One of the busses had seven passengers on board while the other contained only the driver.

The buses suffered extensive damage and several sections of concrete guardrail were moved.

Ritchie said both drivers were given tickets for driving too fast relative to the condition.
