Briefs from incidents attended by the 樱桃视频Emergency Program:
A visiting climber is thanking his belaying partner after a large rock broke off a climbing route and crashed into a man controlling a climbing rope at Murrin Park.
John Howe of 樱桃视频Search and Rescue (SAR) said the incident happened on Sept. 6.
Howe said the rock was "microwave oven" sized. The rock hit the man at the bottom causing serious injuries to his leg and foot. The lead climber dependent on the rope being held by the belayer fell a considerable distance below his last piece of protection. Miraculously, the belayer held the fall and lowered his partner safely to the ground after being hit by the rock, Howe said. The injured man was taken on a helicopter long line from the scene and flown to 樱桃视频General Hospital. SAR volunteers from Whistler helped with the helicopter long line rescue.
Diamond Head gate cut for rescue
SAR volunteers helped rescue a fall mountain bike rider on Sunday (Sept. 11). The female rider was on the Diamond Head trail to Elfin Lakes about two kilometres above the parking lot. The woman suffered head and hand injuries.
With daylight fading, SAR members decided to cut the lock off the gate at the trailhead to allow an ambulance to drive right to the biker.
Howe said the woman was treated at the scene and taken 樱桃视频General Hospital.
Hiker air lifted from Garibaldi Lake area
Also on Sunday, 樱桃视频SAR members were asked to help a woman on the Garibaldi Lake Trail who experienced intense vomiting and intestinal discomfort.
A helicopter was flown from Whistler and the 樱桃视频SAR members worked with Whistler SAR volunteers to locate an appropriate landing area.
The woman was taken to the medical clinic in Whistler.
