With the great summer weather, the fruits of our gardening efforts are taking hold. It's now time to consider entering some of your garden produce, home baking and preserves into the Brackendale Fall Fair.

This year's event will be held Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Brackendale Farmers' Institute Fair Grounds located between the Brackendale Art Gallery and the Brackendale Elementary School on Government Road. It is organized by the Brackendale Farmer's Institute which is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year...being originally formed in 1915.

The Brackendale Fall Fair is held annually to bring the community together in celebration of the joys of farming life and to educate the young, the interested and the enthusiastic to both traditional and innovative farming practices.

In addition to the categories mentioned above, the Fair also has categories for domesticated animals, woodworking, hobbies and crafts that are made locally. There are 215 categories in total. Madeline Robertson (604-898-3390) is the contact for information about exhibitors' entries. Entries are available at Gelato Carina (Downtown), the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵCredit Union (Highlands Branch only) and The Brackendale General Store.

The actual Fair itself is very much a great family event, with displays of the exhibits mentioned above, tractor/hay rides, games and a wealth of crafts and food booths. Search and Rescue in on hand with their hamburger and hot dog grill. If anyone is interested in a vendor's booth please contact Thor Froslev at 604-898-333. (Thor is the president of the Brackendale Farmer's Institute and contact for general information about the Fall Fair.)

As with any event of such a magnitude, it takes a great deal of work to organize and put it on. Volunteers are needed to help put up and take down tents, etc. Dan McRae is in charge of organizing this group. He can be reached at 604-898-8499.
