Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ

A King Air 200 turbo prop airplane reported missing last week was located on the weekend in the Upper Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵValley.

The plane was reported missing on Thursday (July 28) and it was found on Saturday (July 30) by a Canadian Forces Cormorant helicopter.

Coroner Jan McFayden said the plane was located in the Shovelnose Creek watershed. Shovelnose is a tributary of the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵRiver.

According to Cpl. Dave Ritchie of the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵRCMP, the plane was located 18 nautical miles north of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵin steep terrain.

Two people were on board the plane, both pilots.

According to a statement from CFB Comox, Michael Black, 29, of Kelowna, and Michael Bracht, 34, of Toronto were found dead in the plane.

Capt. Scott Murphy of the 442 Squadron based in Comox said searchers involved in the effort to find the King Air 200 hoped to bring back good news for the families but they were forced to return with bad news.

"Our deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers go out to their families in their time of grief,'' said Murphy.

The search effort was conducted by more than 20 aircraft.

The downed plane was owned by Northern Thunderbird Air. The company helped in the search effort.

The plane took off from Vancouver and was destined for Smithers. The craft was due to arrive in Smithers at 10 a.m. It was reported missing at 11:30 a.m.

McFayden said the National Transport Safety Board is investigating the crash.
