A call for an independent judicial inquiry into the October 2003 flooding in Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵwas squelched by Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵcouncil Tuesday (Jan. 18).

Coun. Raj Kahlon asked council to consider his idea of an enquiry into the flooding after Paradise Valley resident Trevor Vallely shared documents with Kahlon that Vallely believes show that B.C. Hydro was negligent in the way it operated the Daisy Lake reservoir leading up to and during the flood event.

Kahlon, also a Paradise Valley resident, said he believes the Crown corporation was "totally negligent" and he wants an investigation.

His council colleagues felt a judicial inquiry was inappropriate so Mayor Ian Sutherland suggested that the mayor and the chief administrative officer for the District of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵdo their own investigation and report back to council.

That suggestion was supported by all council members.

Sutherland said he will write a letter to the president of B.C. Hydro and request a meeting.
