Around the World recital highly anticipated

There has been much anticipation by the dancers, teachers and parents involved in Still Dancing's presentation of the Around the World theme recital. Performances are planned for 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday (June 4) at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre. Teachers Debbie Vidas, Jennifer McNulty and assistant Jane Runnals have been working all year with students in ballet, jazz, hip hop and tap. Tickets are available at Club Flex, Dansez La Vie on Cleveland Avenue and at the door at $10 for adults and $6 for seniors and students.



At the Brackendale Art Gallery tonight (June 3), Chris Landreth tells his story in the Oscar-winning animated short Ryan at 8 p.m. During the evening, there will be a documentary film, Alter Egos.



Howe Sound Performing Arts Association is pleased to present a program consisting of classical music performances by local teachers and students on piano, voice, cello, violin, flute and clarinet. It will be held at St. John's Anglican Church (behind the Sea to Sky Hotel) this Sunday (June 5) at 3 p.m. Admission is by donation and all proceeds will go to the new Bursary Fund to aid music students.



The next distribution date for the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵFood Bank is Wednesday (June 8) in Trinity Hall at Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵUnited Church on Fourth Avenue from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.



It's GrassRoots Jam time again at the Brackendale Art Gallery this Sunday (June 5) from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. All the regulars include 10-year-old Celtic fiddle player Jocelyn Pettit, Carolyn Grass, Ross Smith and Paul Coulter-Brown - all ready to entertain you. Also at the BAG there is a surprise birthday for a neat guy at 2 p.m. and if you want information on this or the Jam, please call 604-898-9689.



There are 21 teams signed up for the Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life event on the weekend of June 24-25. Teams will be soliciting pledges and some teams have held garage sales and other ways of raising money. Tamsyn Morote said she was pleased with the response for the entertainers and it should be a great weekend. She is still in need of a few more volunteers to help out with the relay and if you can give of your time for a few hours, please call her at 604-898-1012 or e-mail [email protected].



The North Vancouver Outdoor School in Paradise Valley is holding its annual Open House this Sunday (June 5) from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This is a family-oriented day and youngsters can visit the salmon hatchery and help release the fish and also visit the Coast Salish Big House and help make bannock. The farm animals are always a big attraction as is archery, canoeing and paper making. There are always interesting items waiting for the bid at the silent auction. Take along a picnic lunch or check out the concession stand.

The Howe Sound Secondary School grad class of 1975 and the grade eights of 1971 are invited to a special evening at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵNation Totem Hall on Thursday, July 28 from 6 to 10:30 p.m. It is a dinner only with speakers and the cost (adults only) is $20 per person. In honour of the 60 Anniversary of the Liberation of Holland, an jazz concert will be held outdoors at the new Adventure Centre on Highway 99. It will feature from Holland, the Luluk Purwanto and the Helsdingen Trio and Stage Bus. This special event on Friday, June 10 is brought to the community courtesy of the Howe Sound Performing Arts Association, Legion Branch #277 and the District of Squamish. It begins with the Legion Colour Parade at 6:30 p.m.



The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵHealth Care Foundation Society is sponsoring the Wael Audi Family and Pets walk/run 5-10 km on Sunday, June 12 at 10 a.m. starting from Hilltop House. The registration fee is $35 with shirt or $25 without shirt. For 13-16 year olds, the $15 fee includes a shirt and for the 12 years and under, the fee is $10 and includes a shirt. Funds raised help the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵHealth Care Foundation Society to purchase equipment for the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵGeneral Hospital and the Sea to Sky corridor.



The Hearts in Motion Walking Club will meet at 37988 Magnolia Crescent, Valleycliffe on Friday, June 10 at 9:30 a.m. for a dike walk. Those wishing more information are asked to call Elaine at 604-898-9894 or Stephanie at 604-898-1268.



On Saturday, June 11, the annual Kindergarten Health and Childcare Fair will be held at Brennan Park Recreation Centre from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The fair is sponsored by the Vancouver Coastal Health, Sea to Sky Community Services and the District of Squamish, Recreation Services.
