Voting day in Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵis set for on Feb. 26, as Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵcouncil wants to know how much support there is for the idea of spending $20 million on recreation and amenities.

A single referendum question will be put to residents on that date. The provincial inspector of municipalities approved the question this week and the District of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵmanager of administrative services reported that advance voting dates for the referendum are set. Those dates along with the official wording of the referendum question will be published in upcoming legal notices in The Chief.

There won't be a great deal of information on specific projects because the idea behind the referendum is to gauge public sentiment before spending large amounts of money on planning for a project or projects that the community doesn't want.

If residents approve the borrowing plan, detailed planning will begin on projects that could include; a second sheet of ice at Brennan Park, a seniors centre, an arts centre, more ball fields, a youth gym and a public use building near the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵYacht Club.

Coun. Corinne Lonsdale said at council's meeting Tuesday (Jan. 18) she is thinking of encouraging residents to cast no votes.
