Hats off or "hair off" to Willie Lewis for pledging to have his long hair and beard shaved in the Balding for Dollars in support of the B.C. Children's Hospital cancer ward tomorrow (April 2) at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵStation Shopping Centre. If you are not willing to go bald, you can make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society. The retailers in the mall are also holding a raffle with the grand prize, a $250 gift certificate from IGA, second is a $150 gift certificate from IGA and the third prize, a $50 gift certificate from White Spot. This is all for a great cause and the lucky winners will be announced at 3 p.m.



The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵOceanfront Development (formerly known as the Nexen lands and chemical plant) is the site for a big Spring Fair operated by West Coast Amusements and sponsored by the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵElks Club. WC Amusement is the largest carnival in Canada and they are coming directly from B.C. Place Stadium in Vancouver. On Thursday (April 7) and Friday (April 8), the fair will be open from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday (April 9) the hours are from 12 noon to 11 p.m. and on Sunday (April 10) from 12 noon to 6 p.m. The event includes lots of carnival rides, games of chance, concessions and all-in-all, fine family entertainment.



The expansion of the Gift Shop has now been completed and to celebrate this occasion, the Women's Auxiliary to Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵGeneral Hospital is holding an open house starting at 1:30 p.m.on Tuesday (April 5). You will have a chance to browse through the gift shop and also enjoy tea, coffee and cake in the cafeteria.



There is an "Awesome, Wicked, Unbelievably Free Teen" event happening Saturday (April 2) from 12 noon to 7 p.m. at the Sea to Sky Freenet Association Hot Spot at 38027 Cleveland Avenue. Does computer gaming contests (Tetris, Starcraft, Bubble Master) and video games, free internet access and other activities peak your interest? Head down to the Hotspot and while playing games etc. also partake of pizza and other tasty teen food.



The adult book discussion on Wednesday (April 6) will take place from 12 noon to 1 p.m. in the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵPublic Library. Pick up a copy of Brick Lane by Monica Ali and plan on joining the group.



Twenty-five frames were taken out for those entered in the fifth annual Foyer fundraiser at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵPublic Library. It is hoped they will all be returned and put on display next week. It is really wonderful the ideas that people have when creating their own "masterpieces"! Some of the frames were taken out by profession artists and a few by children. The frames will be on display for the silent auction which takes place on May 8.



It's Grassroots Jam time at the Brackendale Art Gallery this Sunday (April 3) from 7:30 to 10 p.m. It features local musicians including 10 year-old virtuoso on the fiddle, Jocelyn Pettit and her parents Joel and Siaw who play Celtic music to get your feet a-tappin'! Also on the program are singer Carolyn Grass and singer-songwriter Paul Coulter-Brown. The organizers would love to have more people out to enjoy this evening. Admission is by donation.



The annual used book sale sponsored by the Friends of the Library will be held on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24. The library will accept donations of books in good condition beginning on April 15.



Next week, Between Shifts Theatre will be performing in an Evening With Monty Python at the Eagle Eye Theatre. The dates are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 7, 8 and 9 at 8 p.m. each night. Directing the original Python skits is Liz Gruber, with Kathy Daniels as producer. Best leave the youngsters at home as this is an adult oriented show. Tickets are available at Eagle Run Coffee Company, Billie's Bouquet and at the door at $12 each.



On Friday, April 8, the Hearts in Motion Walking Club will meet at the Chamber of Commerce at 9:30 a.m. for a walk along the new trail at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵOceanfront lands.
