Professional wildlife photographer Norman Rich is at the Brackendale Art Gallery, Saturday, Jan. 13 at 8 p.m. His presentation includes Photographing Wildlife: Eagles, Owls, Elk and Grizzlies. The Brackendale Eagle Festival continues Jan. 20 and 28 at 8 p.m. at the BAG with a slideshow-lecture series on the natural world. Admission by donation. Visit www.brackendaleartgallery.com.



The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵEnvironmental Conservation Society holds its first eagle count of 2007 this Sunday (Jan. 14). Participants are asked to meet at the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Co. at 8 a.m. Call Judith, 604-892-3340.



The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵTrails Society holds its monthly meeting at the Tantalus Seniors' Centre at 1471 Pemberton Avenue, Thursday (Jan. 18) at at 7 p.m. Call 604-898-5385.



There will have to be a large birthday cake at Hilltop House on Wednesday (Jan. 17) when residents celebrate birthdays. This month those to be honoured includes: Peg Sutter, Percy Fairhurst, Mary Bennett, John Berezowski, Rosamund Dashwood, Art Julien, Nel Broere, Harry Dickson, Delfina Alvernini, Betty Simpson, Hope Walters, Freda Baity, Hannah Kirkwood and Anne Kristianson.



The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵFood Bank will distribute grocery hampers on Wednesday (Jan. 17) from 11:30 to 1 p.m. in Trinity Hall, Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵUnited Church on Fourth Avenue.



Al Gore's movie An Inconvenient Truth about global warming is a must see. The movie follows Gore as he takes his slideshow about global warming to audiences across the U.S. It will be shown at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Sunday (Jan. 14) at 8 p.m. and admission is by donation.



The Tantalus Walking Group schedule for January and February is now posted at www.members.shaw.ca/royjshep.walks.htm.



Children ages eight to 15 can participate in Balloon Basics at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre for the next four Mondays starting on Jan. 22. Kids will learn the basics of creating animals and shapes out of only a balloon. Balloon Twister 2 will be offered starting Feb. 19.



Howe Sound Performing Arts Association is pleased to present 19-year-old Canadian pianist Avan Yu in concert at St. John's Anglican Church on Friday, Jan. 26 at 8 p.m. This young man has distinguished himself by his extraordinary performances in competitions and festivals. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors, and available at Mostly Books, Billie's Bouquet and the Adventure Centre.

Howe Sound Secondary Technology Education Department presents A Trades Training Information Evening for students, parents and community members on Wednesday (Jan. 17) from 5 - 9 p.m. at Howe Sound Secondary School. Staff from Capilano College, BCIT, Vancouver Community College, Kwantlen College and Howe Sound Secondary School will have information and counselors available to provide course information and answer questions. The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ835th Griffin Air Cadets will be out from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday (Jan. 14), knocking on doors all through Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵand Brittania asking for bottle donations to fund their trip to Evans Lake for winter manuoevers. The Cadets also accept Canadian Tire money donations.
