The support of the community is what makes the annual Hilltop House garage and bake sale so successful each year. Plan on attending anytime between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 3. Items you may wish to donate can be taken to HTH anytime but please, no clothing. Home baking is always appreciated and can be taken anytime Friday evening, June 2 or early Saturday morning. There will be an in-house raffle and coffee and goodies will be available.



A group of young people (18 in all) from Canada and China will be coming to Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵin September as part of the Canada World Youth (CWY) exchange program. Host families are required for this group that range in age from 17 to 23. Each host family and work placement will have two exchange participants, one from Canada and one from China during their stay here. CWY provides a billeting stipend to host families for $140 per week for the pair. Have you checked through your collection of books and thought of donating any of them to the upcoming book sale at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵPublic Library? The dates are Saturday, June 3 and Sunday, June 4 and the sale is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Books will be accepted up to and including Wednesday (May 31).



Between Shifts Theatre's presentation of Take 5, an evening of one-act plays has been very successful with great audiences each night at the Brackendale Art Gallery. There are just two nights remaining, tonight (May 26) and Saturday (May 27) at 8 p.m. The casts have been greatly assisted by stage manager Mike Johnson and crew members Don Lawrence and Kelvin Albrecht. Doing a fine job with costumes is Lynn Wong and also assisting back stage are Simon Wong and Whitney Franklin. Tickets at $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors are available at Mostly Books and the BAG.



It promises to be a busy day at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park on Saturday, June 3 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a garage and plant sale to raise funds to restore a Troop Sleeper car. Many retired BC Rail and PGE employees will be involved in the restoration. Anyone with photos or items from the BCR/PGE era they would like to donate for the car would be much appreciated. Start the day off right by sitting down and partaking of a delicious pancake breakfast prepared by the master chefs of the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵLions Club. The regular hours for the WCRHP is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.



The Heart and Stroke Big Bike is coming back to Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵas it rolls through town on Tuesday, June 20. The Big Bike is a bicycle built for 30 traveling across Canada from April to September. The Heart and Stroke Foundation is looking for groups of people to ride the bike with a minimum pledge of $50 to reserve a seat. Currently, Jones & Company and Curves are registered. In talking with singer Giovanni (John) Amenta's father Sebastian it seems this young man is still making his mark in the entertainment world. He has been on a cruise ship for three months and also traveled in Bangkok and Singapore. On July 8, the Destino, four Canadian tenors will perform at Glad Tidings Church in Vancouver. John would love to see many familiar faces in the crowd! More information later.



The Hearts in Motion Walking Club will meet at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵPavilion on Cleveland Avenue on Friday, June 2 at 9:30 a.m. for an estuary walk. Call me at 604-815-0152 if you wish more information.



A chance to strut their stuff for members of the Still Dancin' dance troupe comes on Saturday, June 3 with performances at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre. It will be great entertainment for all members of the family. Tickets are available at Sea to Sky Sports, Burneing Images, Club Flex and at the door at $12 adults and $7 for seniors and students.



I was in Lillooet for a few days recently and I attended the May Day celebrations with my son Randy and granddaughter Laurel. For the size of that little town, they put together a fine parade, crowning of the new May Day Queen and more.
