ABOUT TOWN: All aboard for spring break fun

The West Coast Railway Heritage Park is geared up for many visitors during Spring Break and the popular Mini Rail is back in service and ready to take youngsters and their friends and families on a great trip around the park.

Another big attraction will be the Thomas the Tank Engine display including a video and colouring contest. Do your best, as there are prizes to be won. The newly opened second floor of the Brightbill House is filled with toys, dolls, furniture and more from another era and something kids of today will have fun checking out. The park is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.



The B.C. Museum of Mining at Britannia Beach has activities planned during the Spring Break. If you wish more information please call 604-896-2233.



Check out Brennan Park Recreation Centre's special Spring Break skating and ice sports schedule. During the week of March 15 to 19 there will be an extra Everyone Welcome skate, youth hockey and evening adult drop-in hockey.

There is still time to register at Brennan Park for Spring Break Daze camps for ages seven to 12 years. The week includes sports, crafts, swimming, skating and other fun activities. For more information please call 604-898-3604.



All those interested in participating in the monthly bird count sponsored by the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵEstuary Conservation Society are asked to meet at the Howe Sound Inn at 8 a.m. Sunday (Mar. 11). Bird counts are a wonderful way to get to know the estuary and fellow nature lovers. All levels of birders are welcome. For more information you are asked to call Judith at 604-892-3340.



Birthdays this month at Hilltop House will be celebrated on Wednesday (Mar. 17) at 2 p.m. and those to be honoured include: Henry Dan, Jeanne Watson, Bob Robson and Judy Olsen.



It's that time of year again when the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵGardeners are getting ready for another season. Their first guest will be Pamela Erickson of Erickson's Day Lilies in Langley and she will share her knowledge at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵPublic Library on Monday (Mar. 15) at 7 p.m. The admission is $2 for members and $5 for non-members.

Looking ahead, well known garden expert Des Kennedy will be in Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵin June. The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵGardeners have chosen Sunday, July 11 for the annual Garden Tour. Those wishing to have their gardens displayed during the tour are asked to call Gary at 604-898-9100 or Eleanor at 604-898-5416.



The Sea to Sky Community Services Society is sponsoring a burger and beer fundraiser Saturday (Mar. 13) at 6 p.m. at the Grizzly Bar and Grill. The price is $10 and includes a burger and a beer. Nine dollars of every ticket goes directly back to SSCSS. There is also an auction on Saturday night and donations of goods or services would be much appreciated. Any teens 13 and up are welcome to join the Teen Book Club at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵPublic Library and are invited to pick up a copy of Flipped by Wendalin Van Draanen. In anticipation of the May 8 date for the annual garage sale and raffle sponsored by the Women's auxiliary to Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵGeneral Hospital, tickets for the raffle are now on sale at the gift shop at SGH. The prizes this year include a $150 gift certificate from The Garden Centre, a $60 jewelry box and a $40 gift certificate for dinner for two at Sunrise Japanese Restaurant.



An artist reception is planned at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵPublic Library Saturday (Mar. 13) from 1 to 3 p.m. The art from recycled metal by Charlie Cowrie, the bone jewelry by Todd Woffinden and paintings by Karen Goodfellow will be on display. It is also an opportunity to meet artist Karen Goodfellow.



The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵYouth Theatre is ready to hit the stage of the Eagle Eye Theatre for performances on Mar. 25, 26, and 27 at 8 p.m. each night. The plays include Wolf Tale Blues, The Dream Rocks, Witching Hour, Adventures of Captain Potato and The Mystery of the Missing Ham. It is organized and produced by Adriane Polo and the other directors include: Sarah Booth, Michelle Heighes, Dan Jarvis and Laurie Pavon Solis. The cast members in the plays total 50 including 40 young players.

Tickets at $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors are available at Highland Video and Mostly Books.



The 2004 Bowl for Big Brothers and Big Sisters Classic is being held at the Garibaldi Lanes on the Mar. 26 to 28 weekend. Wendy at 604-815-6850 would like to hear from those who would like to enter a team.
