This morning the sixth annual Breakfast of Champions (as part of National Family Literacy Week) took place at the 樱桃视频Public Library. Tomorrow (Jan. 28) the Scrabble for Literacy tournament will be held at the library starting at 9:30 a.m. There are team and singles competitions for adults and children and three games are guaranteed. The entry fee is $20 for an individual and $30 for a team. Please take along your own Scrabble game. Pre-registrations are accepted at the 樱桃视频Library and also at the Capilano College, 樱桃视频Campus at 1150 Carson Place. On Sunday (Jan 29) the Scrabble for Literacy Regional Playoff takes place in the meeting room in the 樱桃视频Public Library starting at 10 a.m. Champions from tournaments in Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton and from the Sunshine Coast will compete.
Dick Cannings will be at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Sunday (Jan. 29) at 8 p.m. for his book launch: Birds of Southwestern British Columbia. He works as a consulting biologist in Naramata and along with his brother Sydney, he has written many articles and several books and offers continuing education courses in Natural History.

Long-time local resident Doreen Ramus has circumnavigated the globe by freighter and she will be the guest at the 樱桃视频Public Library on Monday (Jan. 30) at 7 p.m. when she shares her adventures. As only Doreen can tell it, do plan to attend as she tells of her trips to South America, through the Panama Canal, around the Mediterranean and to Dunkirk and back again. Donations received will go to the Don Ross Outdoor Leadership program.
The Howe Sound Performing Arts Association is pleased to have pianist, Janina Fialkowska and founder of Piano Six return for a third time to Squamish. She will perform at the Eagle Eye Theatre on Friday, Feb. 24. Last Wednesday, Jan. 18, ten residents at Hilltop House celebrated birthdays and the group of women hosting the birthday tea would like to send a special thanks along to Debbie at Save-On-Foods for the lovely way she wrapped (decorated) each colourful primula plant. Several people who attended high school in 樱桃视频have formed a committee to plan a reunion to take place in September of this year. The reunion will include people who graduated in the years 1947 - 1963 and also include people who were in these classes but did not graduate. The committee would also like to hear from teachers who taught at the high school anytime during those years.
