Canadian folk singer Valdemar Horsdal, more commonly known as Valdy, is bringing the Eagle Wingding back to Brackendale. The celebration helps wind up the 22nd Annual Brackendale Winter Eagle Festival. The spirited dance party has been a staple at the Brackendale Art Gallery for about 17 years.

As two-time Juno award winner, Valdy has a repertoire of recognizable songs that stretch back over 34 years of singing and songwriting. He has had four gold records including the hit Play Me a Rock and Roll Song that has since been covered by artists such as John Kay of Steppenwolf.

His return to Brackendale will bring him back in the company of two old friends Thor and Dorte Froslev. The gallery owners once presented him with a Brackendale Eagles Award For Excellence marking his cultural contributions to the community.

Valdy chalks the award up to "being pals and supporting that place as much as I have."He was quick to reveal the warm character he has found beneath Froslev's gruff exterior.

"Thor is just a prince of a guy. He's a hard soul but he's got a marvelous heart," Valdy said. "He's not an old softie but he definitely has a warm side to him after a while you get to like him, get to love him for it."

The Valdy Wingding begins at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Saturday (Jan.19) at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20.Those looking to dine and dance can show up at the gallery at 7 p.m. for Caesar salad, salmon bisque, hearty bread and dessert followed by the show for $35.

Tickets are available at Mostly Books and the Brackendale Art Gallery.
