What's your 2010 Wild at Art vision?

Community roundtable planned for Saturday (March 8)

Bring your bag lunch and creative ideas to the 2010 Wild at Art Festival roundtable discussion, Saturday (March 8).

Wild at Art board member Michelle Neilson said the meeting is a chance to informally communicate a vision for the festival in 2010 and get feedback from the community.

"We want to create dialogue with the private sector about plans for 2010. Local businesses and hotels are going to be key providers during the 2010 Games and we want them to get involved," Neilson said.

The meeting takes place during the Wild at Art Workshop Day at the West Coast Railway Park from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Artists, culture organizations, local government and business owners are encouraged to attend the discussion and add their ideas to the mix.

"We want to empower the private sector and link them to the festival. We need to roll up our sleeves as a community," Neilson said. "This is an opportunity for people to come forward and be part of next year's event."

Ideas for 2010 are already in the works. Wild at Art has submitted an application to VANOC's Cultural Olympiad to hold a concert in Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵduring the 2010 Winter Games. Other applications will be put forward to different levels of government for additional arts programming. The roundtable discussion will identify priorities, said Neilson.

"We would like to use this informal gathering to update you on our festival vision for 2010 and hear your ideas on how we can make it even more memorable for our community," Neilson said.

Wild at Art is a 2010 initiative generated by the local arts community and began as a two-day festival in 2004. Five years later, the festival has grown into a 10-day celebration including art exhibits and displays, concerts, workshops, an artisan market, films, poetry readings and children's entertainment and activities.

In 2010 the Wild at Art Festival will be held for 17 days during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
