WellÂ… it does contain both monsters and aliens

Monsters Vs. Aliens Director: Rob Letterman, Conrad Vernon Cast: Reese Witherspoon, Hugh Laurie, Seth Rogen Rated: PG Running time: 94 minutes

Oh to be 10 again. Or at least young enough not to care about anything but gags and violence in my animated viewing. It was also the time when monsters were the super coolest, and the only thing better was aliens put the two together and you have a kid who is pee-your-pants excited.

This celebrity voice-a-thon feature starts with a soon-to-be-married Reese Witherspoon who gets hit by a meteor and presto you have the 90-foot woman. Quickly, the army takes her down "Gulliver's Travels" style and she's put in prison with other area 52 monsters. Here we're introduced to the silly monsters that give most of the humor in the film. The Blob, the mad-scientist/cockroach and the strong lizard. (OK, I know it's just a silly cartoon, but if lizards are hatched, why does this lizard have a belly button?) From there, this crew get free from their prison to battle the alien. In this case it's a huge headed squid with four eyes and questionable intelligence.

In the end this film made me realize I'm not 10, and although monsters and aliens are still totally awesome, it's not enough to keep me caring for 90 minutes. There is nothing in this film of redeeming quality. It doesn't teach anything, but it does have lots of action and gags so it is entertaining. As for suitable for children? Not under 10. Other than that, fill your boots with this cotton candy time waster.
