Think of the children

Director: Harald Zwart Cast: Steve Martin, Jean Reno, Emily Mortimer Rated: PG Running time: 92 minutes

I have no problem with Steve Martin. He's certainly not my favourite Saturday Night Live alumni, but he's usually good for a giggle when needed. Neither do I have a problem with bumbling detective movies. In fact it's one of my favourite genres.

I do however have a problem with this film, a problem that became apparent as I entered the theatre with 50 small children.

My problem is that these children will grow up thinking this is the Pink Panther. Of course this isn't the Pink Panther. This is Hollywood's complete lack of respect for the dead. The dead in this case being the legendary and brilliant Peter Sellers who was and forever should be remembered as Inspector Jacques Clouseau.

As for this "film"? Well, Martin once again is on the lookout for who stole the Pink Panther diamond. It's your average fare with not much in the way of standout comedy or plot. What is interesting is this has more of a kid movie feel with the exception of the scenes where Clouseau is forced to have sensitivity training, as it appears he's very racist and sexist.

In the end this movie is fine. It's a fluffy piece that does no harm. Well, except to the huge pile of crap it takes on the reputation of a brilliant comedian. That and I wish someone would think of the children and make sure no child is left behind thinking this mediocre fluff is the real Pink Panther.
