Sweet songs from Squamish

Wild at Art contest winners featured in newly released CD

The 2009 Wild at Art Festival has its own official soundtrack.

With support from Tourism Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵand Greg Gardner GM, festival organizers have produced Local Colour, a CD of local musicians that encapsulates the community through both visual art and music.

"The CD is a true reflection of the diverse arts and culture in our community," said project co-ordinator Michelle Neilson. "The ultimate goal is that these sorts of projects are artist co-ordinated with proceeds going directly to the artists. So on one hand this project is a market test, on the other hand it serves as a dress rehearsal for Wild at Art to create business ventures with the arts community that help with festival sustainabilitity.

"If we can do successful projects like this, we empower ourselves to be more self-funded so district dollars can help fund other community projects, or fix potholes, and we encourage our local artists to work together on business ventures."

The CD includes the 12 compilations from the Wild at Art Singer/Songwriter contest held in the fall of 2008.

Featuring local Dana-Marie Battaglia's winning song The Changing Valley, the CD also includes blues, country, pop, choral, Celtic, and more.

To add even more local colour, images from contributing visual artists for the 2009 festival art gallery were used in a collage to form the CD cover design.

The festival CD retails for $10 and is on sale at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵAdventure Centre and at other businesses throughout the community. Those wanting wholesale purchasing of the CD (minimum orders of 12) are asked to contact the Adventure Centre at 604 815-5084.

All proceeds from the CD will go towards funding more community arts projects during the 2010 Winter Olympics.
