Film submissions accepted until Feb. 9

Reel Wednesdays gets into the spirit next week with an evening dedicated to local filmmakers' enthusiasm over the 2010 Games.

Tourism Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵis hosting Reel Spirit 2010 Movie Night, and inviting Sea to Sky residents to "live it, love it and share in the spirit" by submitting their "inspiring and positive" amateur video and photography "showcasing the spirit of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵand/or excitement around the upcoming 2010 Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games."

Then from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 11), locals can pop into the Adventure Centre theatre for a free viewing of the winning entries. And not only will winning filmmakers receive praise, they'll also share in cash prizes totalling $750.

Spirit of BC committees from across B.C. were invited to apply to 2010 Legacies Now for the special 1 Year Countdown (1YC) fund, funded by the Province of B.C. On average, each committee that applied will receive $5,000 to add a new event or enhance events already planned in their communities to celebrate the 5th annual Spirit of BC Week. Total funding awarded is nearly $375,000."As we countdown to 2010, it's important that every community in B.C. has the opportunity to catch the Olympic spirit," said Bill Bennett, Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts.
