Night out turns into a barrel of laughs

"Have you seen these guys perform?" asked Grizzly Pub owner John Dancy.

"Have you seen these guys perform?" asked Grizzly Pub owner John Dancy. "They're really going to make you laugh!" Dancy is referring to comedians Chris Molineux and John Perrotta - the two men who performed Wednesday, March 26 at the first of many Wednesday Live Stand-Up Comedy Nights at the Grizzly Bar and Grill. As night fell, Dancy looked on excitedly as approximately 50 people filtered into his bar for the free evening of laughs. "Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵis a great place for this show because of its size," said Molineux, who organized the now monthly event through his company Happy Face Productions. "In communities under 40,000 people, the word tends to spread forward easily. I wouldn't be surprised if the ball kept rolling in Squamish, because that's what balls do." The show officially began in the rustic bar around 9 p.m. when Perrotta took the stage. The Prince George native used his blunt, raw style to cruise through his routine filled with comic staples, such as sex, relationships, bodily functions, and his large Italian family. Perotta now lives in Vancouver, is a regular with Yuk Yuk's and has performed with Robin Williams. Next up was headliner Molineux - who has performed with famous comedians such as Jim Carrey, Jerry Seinfeld and Ellen Degeneres. His experience as a comedian for 22 years was obvious as he powered through his routine - feeding off of the rising energy of the crowd. He put his tremendous talent for exaggerated facial expressions, wild whole body gestures, witty humour, and his impressive sound effects (best incoming missile impression) to woo the audience into waves of contagious laughter. "When you go to a concert, you're not part of the show - in comedy -the audience can interact with the performers," explained Molineux. That was definitely the case during Wednesday's show, where people in the audience were eager to shout out responses, laugh out-loud and even do a little heckling to complete the comedic experience.Even when the two are not performing, they're still expressive and blunt - telling things how they see them. "People can be reserved or cautious - comedy lets it all out," said Perrotta.Comedy Night at the Grizzly takes place the last Wednesday of each month, and locals may be surprised at the level of talent they'll see.Since Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵis close enough to Vancouver, said Molineaux, he could book some of the best comedians in Canada. "So stay tuned, this is a good place to do comedy."
