A bitter Santa's elf at a department store. Strangers trapped in a hunting cabin. A musical about relationships. Rich hypoglycemic socialites wanting reservations at a high-end restaurant. These are just a few of the plot lines that will leave Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵaudience howling starting this fall. The men behind a new local production company, Euphoric Theatre, are committed to leaving its audiences breathless from laughter.Michael Hewitt, the man behind the curtain, so to speak, said both he and fellow business partner Travis Woods wanted to give back to the community. With over 13 years of acting experience in Squamish, Hewitt said he felt the time had come for the mergence of professionals from Vancouver and local theatre."There has always been a wealth of talent in the corridor," Hewitt said."[Euphoric Theatre] allows us to marry local performances with professionals from Vancouver and bring more production value to the table."This is a not-for-profit initiative that allows our locals to showcase their talents."Euphoric Theatre has four plays lined up for the 2008/2009 season, and offers different experiences to audiences, including a musical and a one-act. Since each play has only a few actors on stage at a time, said Hewitt, the challenge will lie in the actor's ability to captivate the audience for over an hour. Hewitt said he's confident the theatre will deliver because all of the members of the cast "go for the sake of having fun and being together." They seem to be just as passionate about the theatre as he is. To help with the productions, Hewitt has enlisted professionals from Vancouver and Salt Spring Island. In addition, both he and Woods will be starring in the first production, The Dirty Talk, opening on October 16, which befittingly mirrors both his and Woods' personalities."It's a laughing, belly-aching show," Hewitt said.Tickets for each play cost $14, and currently the showings are set for evenings only. For the first time Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵresidents will be able to purchase season tickets by phone, in person or online. For the full line-up and to purchase tickets, visit www.euphorictheatre.com.
