It'll be a howlin' good time for partygoers of all ages Saturday (Oct. 26) as two Halloween events appeal to the young and not-so-young.First is a visit to the Haunted Pirate Ship at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre where staff have transformed the facility into a den of thrills and chills. From 5:30 to 9 p.m., families can take part in the annual celebration that includes carnival games, fun activities and prizes, and all are free of charge - provided they bring along a food bank donation.

Once the babysitter arrives and the kids are tucked in, join the rest of the community at Totem Hall where those aged 19 years and over can partake in a true Halloween extravaganza, the Mystical Masquerade fundraiser.

Organizers have out done themselves in this event, which provides all kinds of performances, a $500 cash prize for best costume and even soothsayers to keep the masses entertained. For the $25, each individual also receives $5,000 in play money for the Lions Club fun casino and a chance to bid on items with the winnings.

"I'm hoping to see a full house," said organizer Mara Williams with a laugh.

"It's a pretty exciting evening because there's something for everybody. There's some fortune tellers coming up from Vancouver, one uses a crystal ball, another one does palm-reading and the third will do Tarot card readings."

Rhythm Method will set the mood for those wanting to cut a rug, and the Howe Sound Dance Academy will take to the stage to strut their stuff during the band's breaks.

And there's also an opportunity to earn some money with a best costume contest that will potentially offer hundreds in cash prizes.Tickets are available for $25 at Bean Around the World in Brackendale, Billie's Bouquet, Totem Hall and Spa La Vie.All proceeds of the event will go to Totem Hall youth and adult programs.
