Bringing song to the masses

Creating new music stages throughout Squamish

Wild at Art organizers have announced that this year, they're bringing the music to the people - where they eat, drink and congregate.

Six Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵrestaurants and pubs have been selected to host live music during the 2009 festival as part of a pilot test for 2010.

"Depending on community response, Wild at Art might expand programming to include all restaurants and pubs in Squamish," said festival music CD production co-ordinator Kyle Coulter. "Let's get ready to host a real party during the Olympics!"

The smooth sounds of jazz band 3rd Octave Down will launch the Wild at Art performances Sunday (March 8) at Pepe & Gringo's, 40359 Tantalus Way.

On Monday (March 9), Cam Salay hosts an open mike hoedown at the Howe Sound Brew Pub, 37801 Cleveland Ave.

Dana-Marie Battaglia brings her guitar strumming performance to Gelato Carina on Cleveland Avenue Wednesday (March 11).

Friday (March 13) sees Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵrocking with three locations hosting live performances. The Burrow on Garibaldi Way brings a DJ to the tapa lounge's intimate setting. The Ocean Port Hotel on Second Ave. sets the stage for the always popular Dusty Lee and Noisy Boyes. And the Grizzly Pub behind the Sea to Sky Hotel introduces the homegrown band Zombie Locker.

Local businesses that are interested in participating in the Wild at Art 2010 festival as an entertainment venue are invited to attend an information and planning workshop at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park at noon, March 8.

"This is a bag lunch meeting that will cover the vision for 2010, plus a question and answer period for community input. Bring your lunch and your ideas," said festival board member Michelle Neilson.
