FREDERICTON 鈥� Weather records were shattered during the three-day heat wave that rolled across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador this week.
Environment Canada meteorologist Jill Maepea says three areas in New Brunswick broke all-time temperature records during the heat wave that began Tuesday.
Bathurst hit a new record with 37.6 C on Wednesday; the previous record was 37.4 C on June 27, 2003. Miscou Island in the Gulf of St. Lawrence saw 34.1 C on Wednesday, while their old record was 32.8 C on June 19, 2020. And Saint John recorded a new high of 34.5 C on Thursday, breaking the previous high of 34.4 C on Aug. 22, 1976.
Terra Nova Provincial Park in Newfoundland and Labrador set an all-time high for June on Thursday, recording 35.4 C.
Halifax airport set a new monthly record for June, with the mercury touching 34.3 C on Thursday, while their previous one was 33.1 C on June 1, 2023.
Maepea said Fredericton recorded its highest all-time humidex value, also known as a "feels like" value, at 46 C. North Cape, P.E.I., had a humidex value of 43 and Malay Falls in Nova Scotia recorded 45.
